About Me

A Lifetime of Animals!

At the age of 14, I started work for Mrs OV Neave, who at the time was a well known and respected Doberman breeder in Suffolk. This was in the days when breeders did not over-breed their dogs just to cash in. She taught me how to prepare dogs up to the Crufts standard, and we excelled in obedience. I was there several years and learnt a lot, including how to handle big dogs and many of them.

I then went to work for a veterinary practice – Walker and Hughes in Essex – where my roles were vast and varied, including assisting with surgery, cleaning and extracting teeth, draining abcesses, cleaning ears, setting fractures, castrations, spaying and sadly, euthanasia. This experience has made me non-squeamish.

I also went on to work for another Essex vet, Mr Murphy, a wonderful Irish man. Here, I performed the same tasks as in my previous practice, although sadly, on a weekly basis, racing greyhounds were destroyed. As you can imagine, I am not a fan of this dreadful industry.

I went on to set up ‘Witham Animal Rescue Service’ and ran that successfully for several years, I made the local newspaper a few times. I’m pleased to say I managed to rehome many of the rescues and provide a follow up check on them.

After this, I got married and moved to Norfolk, where I had two children. I helped with a local rescue centre for some time. I have rescued German Shepherd dogs and trained them in obedience.

At home, I’ve had a small herd of rescue goats which I absolutely loved. I now have tortoises, geese and several dogs that have been rescued, mostly from Romania.

I have run Jen’s Pet Care for about 20 years and like to go that extra mile for my clients, caring for their pets to the same high standard that I care for mine.

I do get criticised for not putting my prices online, however I feel every client is an individual and every job is unique.
